A Solo Hike: Ngau Kwu Leng

Hiking solo can be a transformative experience, offering both physical challenges and opportunities for personal growth. Recently, I embarked on a hike in my beloved Taipo territory in Hong Kong. The hike started from Ngau Kwu Leng to Fan Ling MTR station, a route known for its demanding terrain but also pretty decent views. This journey was not just about conquering a trail but also about enhancing my health and finding spiritual peace.

The Journey

The hike from Ngau Kwu Leng to Fan Ling MTR station covers approximately 5 kilometers with an elevation gain of ~300 meters. To me, it’s challenging trail that takes around three hours to complete. Along the way, I was greeted by the serene beauty of nature, with panoramic views that made every step worthwhile.

Physical challenge and spiritual development

Hiking is an excellent way to boost physical health. The varied terrain of the Ngau Kwu Leng trail provided a great workout for my heart, lungs, and legs. Climbing inclines and navigating rocky paths helped build endurance and strengthen muscles. While it was a more physically demanding hike than I expected, I am glad I took on this physical challenge.

Beyond the physical benefits, hiking offers a unique opportunity for spiritual growth. The tranquility of nature allows for deep introspection and mindfulness. As I walked, I felt a profound connection to the natural world, which fostered a sense of inner peace and harmony. Hiking encourages mindfulness, focusing on the present moment and the immediate surroundings. During my hike, I took moments to pause, breathe deeply, and appreciate the beauty around me, giving me inner calmness and peace.

I will do it more often
