Our recent family trip to Guilin and Yangshuo was nothing short of magical. We spent four enchanting days in this picturesque region, staying near the iconic Elephant Trunk Hill (Xiangbishan) in Guilin. One of our days was dedicated to exploring the charming town of Yangshuo, where we stayed at a delightful bed and breakfast that exuded warmth and comfort. The natural beauty of these places was truly breathtaking, with their stunning karst landscapes and serene rivers. The local cuisine was another highlight, offering a delicious array of flavors that added to our memorable experience. During our stay in Yangshuo, we had the unique opportunity to try bamboo rafting along the Yulong River. The gentle flow of the river and the towering limestone peaks around us created a serene and picturesque setting. It was a truly immersive experience that brought us closer to nature and allowed us to appreciate the tranquility and beauty of Yangshuo in a deeply personal way. From savoring the local delicacies to the serene boat rides, every moment was a testament to the charm of this region.
While Guilin is renowned for its tourism, we observed that the economic benefits of this industry do not always extend beyond the tourism sector itself. Despite this, it was heartening to witness the diligence and integrity of the local people. Their hard work and honesty shone through, creating an atmosphere of genuine hospitality that made our trip even more special. This experience not only enriched our appreciation for the region’s natural beauty but also for the resilience and spirit of its people.
